Acronyms, Abbreviations, and Your Resume

Lots of us work in industries with our own special language, industry jargon, acronyms, and abbreviations. Our own alphabet soup, of sorts. 🥣

We can say IEP or KPI or RFP and everyone knows what we are talking about. Or not.

🧐 Here's the catch... you are so used to being in an environment where everyone is in the same industry and knows exactly what you mean.

BUT, be aware of the following...

➡️ATS reads exactly as it is written in their job posting. So, if they talk about Key Performance Indicators, then KPI won't work

➡️If you are making a career pivot or transition, foreign acronyms and abbreviations have absolutely no value and are irrelevant to the position. Better to describe and provide the VALUE.

➡️Sometimes when you look at a job posting, you might see acronyms and abbreviations you are unfamiliar with. Don't ignore them! Look them up. Maybe you actually use it, without even knowing that's what it's called!😉
