Long Division and Your Job Search
➗Let's say that you had a child that was struggling with long division.
➡️Every ➡️Single ➡️Time they got the ❌Wrong Answer
😔They were feeling discouraged and frustrated and came to the conclusion that they not only couldn't do long division, but they also were bad in math, and possibly even feeling that they weren't smart at all, and couldn't do anything right.
🥰Your response wouldn't be to allow this child to keep those destructive, negative, limiting beliefs.
✔️In fact, what you would do is look at the child's PROCESS in the long division problem, because there are so many steps.
✔️You would go over their work. Was it the initial division, the multiplication, the subtraction, the carrying down? Where was the child having difficulty with the problem?
🥰Now let's look at your job search. Rather than saying that nothing is working, define which areas of your job search you are struggling with.
➡️If you are sending out resume after resume, thinking that you are targeting, but still not getting interviews (and definitely if you are using the spray and pray method) then your resume and cover letter need improvement. Concentrate on that first.
➡️So many people's resumes are just a "task list" (hint- they look like a job posting without listing any numbers or results)
✔️A great resume that gets you interviews showcases the difference you made, why everything is better because of you, and absolutely quantifies with numbers and metrics
✔️If your cover letter is a "fill in the blank" that can be written by anybody, for any job, it is not helping you to shine and stand out from the crowd.
➡️If you are going on interview after interview, and never moving forward, then you need to concentrate on your interview preparation.
✔️Researching the company, having stories and examples, being able to discuss everything on your resume and the job posting, and your relevant examples.
Showing up on time (online or in person), well-dressed, smiling, energetic and prepared
✔️Of course your LinkedIn profile is important and employers also view it to determine if they are going to call you in for an interview or give you an offer.
