Should You Have a 1 or 2 Page Resume?

❓️How long should your resume be?
❓️Do you need to keep everything on 1 page?
❓️How long is too long?

📝Here are the answers to ALL those questions, so you can create the best resume to fit your experiences.

✅Unless you are entry-level with little experience, most people will have a 2-page resume.

  • Nearly all of my clients have 2-page resumes.

✅On your 2-page resume, make sure that the summary, skills, and bullet points are relevant and targeted to the job you are applying to.

  • That means, eliminate or significantly reduce the amount of bullet points that are irrelevant to the job you are applying for.

  • This is especially important when making a transition or pivot.

✅Include 10-15 years of work experience.

  • Please don't include every job you have had for the past 25 years.

✅Use space wisely.

  • So a 2-page resume is at least 1.5 pages. Not 1 page and a few extra lines.

✅Make sure the most important info is on page 1.

✅The only people that should have resumes longer than 2 people are those in medical or academia, and they have long CVs, including publications, articles, etc.

✅Generally speaking, most people can fit all their relevant experience on 2 pages.

  • If we all write everything we have ever done on our resumes, we’d all have volumes.

  • It’s up to you to pick out the important information and target to each position.
