What NOT to Do at a Networking Event

What NOT to Do at a Networking Event

👏The simplest networking tricks you aren’t using. 👉 Put your phone away and other easy to do tips with maximum rewards, whether you are at a networking event or your 2nd cousin’s barbeque.

1️⃣ Put your phone away.

There’s nothing that screams I don’t want to be here more than someone scrolling through their Instagram while other people are talking. ❌

2️⃣ Get there early, so that you don’t have to face an already crowded room, where everyone already seems to be talking to someone and you feel like you’re back at the playground trying to make a friend. Ask the host or event coordinator to introduce you. 🤝

3️⃣ Uncross your arms. Smile. Turn your body to face the person you are speaking with. Make eye contact, and truly listen to them, asking meaningful, open ended questions. Don’t just wait for a moment when you can interject. Be a thoughtful conversationalist, encouraging and adding value. 😊

4️⃣ Be a giver not a taker. You aren’t asking people for a job, and certainly not the first time you meet them. Provide value for them, not just for yourself. 💗
