What NOT to Do at a Networking Event

What NOT to Do at a Networking Event

šŸ‘The simplest networking tricks you arenā€™t using. šŸ‘‰ Put your phone away and other easy to do tips with maximum rewards, whether you are at a networking event or your 2nd cousinā€™s barbeque.

1ļøāƒ£ Put your phone away.

Thereā€™s nothing that screams I donā€™t want to be here more than someone scrolling through their Instagram while other people are talking. āŒ

2ļøāƒ£ Get there early, so that you donā€™t have to face an already crowded room, where everyone already seems to be talking to someone and you feel like youā€™re back at the playground trying to make a friend. Ask the host or event coordinator to introduce you. šŸ¤

3ļøāƒ£ Uncross your arms. Smile. Turn your body to face the person you are speaking with. Make eye contact, and truly listen to them, asking meaningful, open ended questions. Donā€™t just wait for a moment when you can interject. Be a thoughtful conversationalist, encouraging and adding value. šŸ˜Š

4ļøāƒ£ Be a giver not a taker. You arenā€™t asking people for a job, and certainly not the first time you meet them. Provide value for them, not just for yourself. šŸ’—
