Yawn.. This cover letter won't get you the job
😉Hmmm... Does your cover letter start like this?
Dear Hiring Manager;
I saw your posting for a (job title) posted on Indeed and am very interested in the position. As you can see from my resume...
🥱I am unoriginal, boring, and don't try very hard.
A cover letter is an amazing opportunity for you to shine. In fact, a great cover letter will put you in the top 10% off all applicants!!!
🤩That's a great place to be!
Remember, this is all about You and Your Brand. Your resume and cover letter is your best representation of yourself. Put your best foot forward and give it your all.
🤔Think about this, if you aren't willing to put in the effort for yourself, then as a Hiring Manager, I'm not convinced that you will put in the level of effort required for my company.
Do all Hiring Managers read them? Honestly no, but approximately 50% of them do. And the higher the position, or the fewer applicants that apply, the more likely that the potential employer will read it. Additionally, Hiring Managers that do read cover letters often look at them before they even glance at your resume.
😊Here's the thing, a 1 or 2 page resume doesn't give you the chance to show how truly fantastic you really are. It doesn't allow you to show your drive, your passion, your personality. Maybe tell a quick accomplishment story or positively explain the elephant in the room and still show why you are the best candidate.
Bottom line is that most resumes will look fairly similar in terms of experience and education. Think of your cover letter as the first page of the best book you've ever read, drawing the reader in, excited to learn more.
🥰“Cover letters have always been very difficult for me. Cindy taught me to look deeper at what I’ve done and talk from the heart. It’s been incredibly helpful. Cindy guided me to look at the job search from the employer’s perspective rather than mine. Her insight has been great.” - Rolonda T
