When the Destination Becomes the Beginning
I loved BEING on vacation, if only I could get there faster. And without any screaming from the backseat. Or flight delays. I just couldn't stand getting there. And back home again.
Standstill traffic and 6 hours in the car, with 2 children and a dog, for a 3 hour trip. Last time I ever go on a "short" driving vacation over a holiday weekend!
I just wasn't certain it was worth all the effort, until I was there.
Picture this. Doing yoga on the beach, with the sounds of the waves crashing in the background. I know, right!! Absolute heaven.
Or fast passing and riding every ride at Disney World, because it's more than just having an ice cream, shaking Mickey's hand and riding It's a Small World.
But I still needed to "fix" the dreaded travel days.
As an experiment, I began to consider the travel days as part of the vacation. Enjoy the journey, mantra. And it worked. Life changer! I had 2 more great days every trip.
I discovered hidden parks and walking trails, local restaurants, and cool stores with great finds. At a small antique store, in a sleepy town, I discovered serving pieces to my Mother-In-Law's beautiful dishes, which she gifted to me a few years ago. Precious finds of the journey.
