Job Application Checklist
Take a moment to look in the mirror. After all, growth only happens when we reflect and make changes.
If you are applying for jobs and not getting interviews, examine the following:
🎯Are you targeting your resume every single time you apply
✔️One cookie cutter resume will not get you the interview
✔️Even jobs with the same titles have different requirements
📃Make sure your resume include a summary rather than an objective
✔️A summary highlights YOU and your unique value and selling points. It's your marketing pitch
✔️An objective is self-serving and should be avoided.
✒️Check for spelling and grammar mistakes.
✔️Those can easily get you eliminated.
✔️Everything you are currently doing should be in the present.
✔️Everything you previously did should be written with past tense verbs.
✔️Don't rely solely on spellcheck.
📋Include hard skills.
✔️Be sure to include the skills and technology requirements the job requires
🎓Include your education and relevant certifications
✔️If earned within the past 5 years, include the date.
✔️If more than 5 years ago, include the degree and university, but not the date
✔️In progress... write expected and the date (example expected December 2022)
➡️Always, always concentrate on quality first, not quantity.
➡️You will be much better off targeting your resume to 5 jobs a week, than haphazardly quick applying to 50, and hoping something sticks.
