My Eyebrow Treading and the Esthetician who was Educated about Moms
Ok, not my most powerful position. I'm lying on the table at a new salon, having a woman stand over me with a thread, yanking unruly eyebrow hairs when she asks me what I do. Well, in spite of the pain, this is the source of my passion, so of course I need to tell her. And do you know what she said??? I couldn't believe it. In fact, I was shocked that a woman/mom/business owner would even say this.
Here's how the conversation went. I told her that I had a national business that empowers Stay at Home Moms with the confidence, tools, and skills to successfully return to the workforce. And she said... wait for it...
"What kind of jobs? Like babysitters?" NO!!!! I tell her. (Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being a babysitter, but let's face it, you don't need me to help you do that. I wouldn't have a national business and all these YouTube videos and websites and systems to tell someone, "put a flyer in the supermarket with tear offs and your phone number.) But I digress...
Anyway, it got me thinking, that maybe, you don't even realize the fantastic jobs that moms can secure, even with a gap. Seriously, at all levels. And fitting your needs. You know, I'm always talking about your WHY. Which means that you need to find a job that matches your lifestyle, financial needs, and personal desires today.
Could that be the same career as you had before, of course.
Could that be a HIGHER position than you had before, of course. (It's amazing when my clients return to the workforce with a gap and have a higher title and earn more money than they did before having children. In fact, a client of mine, with ALL of her work history in another country, and a GAP, just returned to the workforce at a Director level!)
Could that mean making a career PIVOT and finding something new that you love and are passionate about, of course.
Could that mean working part time or full time, remote, in person or hybrid, of course.
Oh yeah, and a lot of moms make pivots in their careers.
ANYWAY... I was thinking, maybe YOU don't realize the ultra cool jobs that are out there, that I have helped my clients land, that might be a perfect fit for YOU.
So let's talk about some of the way cool jobs some of my clients have.
Social Media marketing for a non profit that hires people that were previously incarcerated (and we mostly highlighted her volunteer work to get this position!!) flexible, work around your schedule part time position. But wait, it gets better...I just saw my client talking on PBS about her organization!! Totally awesome. Super proud of her!!)
Project Management (she called me recently to tell me all the great things I've been a catalyst to, how much growth she has made at this company in a short period of time, and how they gave her a major salary readjustment because she's that good! Applause!)
International Event Planning (for a non profit, working part time, remotely. Her perfect fit, dream job, fantastic!)
Seriously, soooo many options. So stop selling yourself short. Thinking you can't.
It's simply a matter of knowing how to properly market yourself. Good thing for you, is that I do. In fact, I have clients earning everything from $30,000 to $150,000/year. Yes, many of my clients earn over $100,000. You heard me. And with a gap.
