References can be your previous boss, although they don't have to be, especially if your last position was oh so many years ago...

It's okay that they don't still work at the same company. It's okay that the company closed. That's why we have LinkedIn and email and cellphones.

Reference possibilities:
Bosses, managers, colleagues, great clients
People you know through your charity and volunteer work, Administrators and Principals from your child's school, Clergy

Always check with the person first, before using them as a reference AND forward them the job posting, so they know which of your AMAZING TALENTS they should talk about.

And NEVER put "references available on request" on your resume .
